"How we Work"

1. How to Connect

1	Search	Find compatible partners with
2	Contact	Send a message (via ) to candidates of interest. The more messages the better! Contacting 20, 30, or more is common.
3	Meet	If after exchanging a few e-mails you click with someone, agree to meet.

SEARCH FOR FREE! You need not be a paying member to search our entire database. Just click on your home page to see who's near you that matches your search criteria. If you see members of interest, then that's a great time to subscribe as a full ("paying") member so you may contact them.

2. Searching

Click on our Home page or Search -> Search now from the top menu bar and you'll be presented with an list of members matching your search criteria. Click a member's username to view their detailed profile.

Your search criteria (distance, age range, etc. ) may be viewed/changed by clicking Edit Search below the button or Search -> Edit Search from the top menu bar.

Tip: Found an interesting member and wish to remember them? Click to record them to your Favorites list. View your Favorites by clicking My Profile -> Favorites.

3. Contacting / Replying

You may contact members by sending an e-mail, greeting card, photo request, or by replying to a message you have received.

The first 3 buttons below appear on each member's profile. Reply appears while viewing a message.

Send a personal e-mail message. Initiating contact via e-mail is a full (paid) membership option. It's the best and fastest way to connect.

To become a full member, click .

Send a pre-written "greeting card". Greeting cards are great ice-breakers to get a conversation going. All members, including free members, may send greeting cards.

At some point, however, you'll wish to switch to true e-mails.

Request Photo

If a profile has no photo, Request Photo will send a pre-written message politely requesting that the member post a photo.

Request Photo appears in the photo area of a profile only if a members has no photo.

While reading a message in your Mailbox, you may reply by clicking Reply. The ability to reply depends on your, and perhaps the senders, membership level:

Gold messages and reply to them for free! If a Silver member contacts me, I must upgrade (to Silver or Gold) to read the e-mail and reply.

Gold or Silver

I may read all e-mails I receive and reply to all members.

4. Membership Levels & E-mail Retention

Everyone begins as a Free member. Free members may browse our entire member database and use nearly all the features of our site. You may keep your Free membership for life!

Correspondence capability is the primary distinction separating membership levels. Here's a summary:

Membership Levels
BEST	Gold	I can e-mail all members. Everyone, even Free members, can read and reply!
BETTER	Silver	I can e-mail all members. Silver & Gold members can read and reply. Free members must upgrade to read my e-mails and reply.
GOOD	Free	I can't initiate e-mail contact, but if a Gold member contacts me, I can read + reply for free! (Cool!) If a Silver member contacts me, I must upgrade (to Silver or Gold) to read the e-mail and reply.
Everyone may send + read our e-greeting cards.
If you elect SIlver and it doesn't work well for you, you may upgrade to Gold for just the pro-rated difference. E.g., a Silver⇒Gold upgrade mid-term is ½ SIlver⇒Gold full term price difference.

E-mail Retention
Free	Messages in your Mailbox are retained for 90 days. *
SIlver & Gold	Messages in your Mailbox are retained FOREVER!!! (As long as your Silver / Gold membership is retained.)
* Once the retention period passes, the message is deleted. Deleted messages are first moved to a "recycle bin" where they can be restored for 90 days by upgrading your membership from Free to either SIlver or Gold. After this grace period, the message is permanently removed.

5. How do members know when they receive a new message?

When a member greets or e-mails another member:

the message will be deposited into the recipient's WholeEarthFriends.com Mailbox, and
a "You Have New Mail" notification will be sent to the recipient's WholeEarthFriends.com registered internet e-mail address, along with the sender's profile photo, if one.

We also remind members (at their internet e-mail address) every 7 days over 30 days (4 times) if any Inbox messages remain unread.

If a member's e-mail address is blocked by a spam filter or invalid the notification may be missed or lost. We therefore recommend that all users login to WholeEarthFriends.com at least monthly to check messages, "just in case".

6. How do I read my E-mail?

1.	Login to WholeEarthFriends.com if not already logged in.
2.	Click My Mailbox, center panel of home page or from the top menu bar.
3.	Click the message you wish to read. (You may click the letter icon or sender name.)
Full membership is normally required to read e-mails. If you're a free member and you receive a message from a Gold member, however, you will be able to read it and personally reply for free! All members may read greetings.

7. How do I reply?

1.	Read How do I read my E-mail? above.
2.	Click		while viewing a message.

You'll know you can reply because the top right corner of the message will say "You may reply to this message for free!".
